Interview with dr Yen Huey Lim (GMG registrar 2010-2011)
1. What part of your training are you currently doing at GMG?
Basic and advanced terms, with less supervision from my GP mentor during the advanced term.
2. What made you choose a country practice?
Family reasons aside, I have always seeked ways to challenge and improve my clinical skills and knowledge. To that effect, I chose to enter GP traineeship in a regional area due to the unique challenges it presents.
3. Why did you choose GMG?
As a young doctor, GMG offered me the opportunity to work alongside many senior GPs. Being on a new learning curve, it was important for me to be supported by senior colleagues. In the last 10 months, I have learned heaps from peer reviews/in-situ tutorials and presentations at GMG.
In addition, GMG is also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that I believe is pivotal for a condusive work environment.
4. What do you like about working and living in Geraldton?
It feels special working in a close knit community. Case in point is bumping into patients at the local grocer, seeing them recover/in good health and receiving positive feedbacks.
Geraldton is the right size, population and infrastructure wise; with positive growth potential. The lifestyle of having the beach and outback at your doorstep is amazing.
5. When do you finish your GP training?
February 2012
6. What are your plans for the near future?
Pass the FRACGP exams and continue enjoying myself at GMG and Geraldton.
